What Size Should a Logo Be? Logo Dimensions for Every Use

Logo size guide showing website, mobile, business card, and branded stationery applications.

There is no single correct logo size. Design a logo as a vector file with no fixed size, then export it at the right dimensions for each place it appears. For most social media profiles, that means a square image of 320 × 320 to 800 × 800 pixels. For Google Business Profile, use 720 × 720 pixels. On a website, upload an SVG or a PNG at twice the size your theme displays it. For print, use the vector file at 300 dpi.

Key Takeaways

  • Design the logo as a vector (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF), then export sized copies from it
  • Square platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Google) need a square logo version, not your wide logo squeezed into a circle
  • Google Business Profile recommends 720 × 720 px, with a minimum of 250 × 250 px
  • For websites, use SVG where you can, or a PNG at double the display size so it stays sharp on high-resolution screens
  • On shirts, a left chest logo is usually 70 to 100 mm wide and a full back print about 300 mm wide

Why Logo Size Causes So Many Problems

Most logo size problems come from having one file and trying to use it everywhere. A wide logo that looks fine on a letterhead turns into a tiny strip inside Instagram’s circle. A small JPG from the website goes blurry on a shirt or a sign.

We are Saga Designs, a graphic design agency in Dandenong, and this is one of the most common fixes we make for new clients. Usually the business keeps its logo and just needs the right set of files. The tables below give the dimensions of a logo for each use, and the sections after them explain how to get files that fit.

Logo Size Chart: Every Common Use in One Table

These are the recommended logo dimensions for the places most businesses use their logo. Platform sizes come from each platform’s own help pages where one exists. Where a platform does not publish an exact figure, the source is named.

Where the logo goes Recommended size Shape
Google Business Profile 720 × 720 px (minimum 250 × 250 px), JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB Square
Instagram profile 320 × 320 px Square, shown as a circle
Facebook page profile 320 × 320 px, shows at 176 × 176 px on desktop Square, shown as a circle
LinkedIn company page 400 × 400 px Square
X (Twitter) profile 400 × 400 px Square, shown as a circle
X (Twitter) header 1500 × 500 px Wide
YouTube profile picture 800 × 800 px upload, shows at 98 × 98 px Square, shown as a circle
YouTube banner 2560 × 1440 px, logo inside the central 1235 × 338 px Wide
YouTube video watermark At least 150 × 150 px, under 1 MB Square
TikTok profile 200 × 200 px Square, shown as a circle
Website favicon Square, larger than 48 × 48 px (512 × 512 px for WordPress) Square
Website header SVG, or PNG at double the display size Usually wide
Email signature Up to 150 × 50 px, file under 20 KB Wide
Business card Vector file, card is 90 × 55 mm in Australia Any
Shirt, left chest 70 to 100 mm wide Any
Shirt, full front or back About 250 to 300 mm wide Any

Platforms change their layouts often, so check the platform’s help page if a logo looks cropped after upload.

What Size Should a Logo Be in Illustrator?

The artboard size matters little for a vector logo. Vectors are built from points and curves, so they can be scaled to any size without losing quality. That is the whole point of designing in Illustrator.

A common, practical setup is a square artboard of around 1000 × 1000 px, or a wide one if the logo is horizontal. Leave space around the logo so it is easy to export. The more important step comes after the design. Export each version from that one master file at the exact pixel size each platform needs, instead of resizing a finished PNG.

The same applies to Canva. A logo built in Canva can be exported at different sizes, but a Canva template logo comes with licence limits, and you may not be able to register it as a trade mark.

What Is the Best Logo Size for a Website?

There is no standard size for a website logo, because each theme displays it differently. Check how large your theme shows the logo in the header, then upload an SVG, or a PNG at twice that size.

The reason for doubling is high-resolution screens. Phones, tablets and most new laptops pack two or three screen pixels into each display pixel. A logo uploaded at exactly its display size looks soft on those screens. An SVG avoids the problem completely, because it stays sharp at any size and is usually a smaller file.

A few practical points for website logos:

  • WordPress. The header logo size depends on your theme’s settings. The Site Icon (favicon) should be square and at least 512 × 512 px.
  • Shopify, Wix and Squarespace. Most themes let you set the logo width in the theme editor. Upload a large, clean PNG or SVG and set the width there.
  • Favicon. Google says a favicon must be square and recommends larger than 48 × 48 px. A full wide logo is unreadable at that size, so use your logo icon or a single letter.
  • Mobile header. Many themes shrink the logo on phones. Check it on your own phone after uploading.

What Size Should a Logo Be for Social Media?

Almost every social media profile picture is square and shown as a circle. Upload a square image of 320 × 320 px or larger. To use one file across every platform, a square of 800 × 800 px or 1000 × 1000 px works well, since each platform scales it down.

The size is the easy part. The harder part is the shape. A wide logo placed inside a circle becomes tiny and unreadable. Use a square version of your logo instead: the symbol on its own, a monogram, or the logo stacked over two lines. Keep a little space between the logo and the edge of the square so the circle does not cut it off.

Instagram Logo Size

Upload 320 × 320 px or larger. Instagram shows the profile picture as a small circle, so a simple icon reads better than a full logo with words.

Facebook Logo Size

Upload 320 × 320 px or larger. On desktop, it shows at 176 × 176 px. The Facebook page cover is a separate wide image, 851 × 315 px recommended, and is a good place for the full wide logo.

LinkedIn Company Logo Size

Upload 400 × 400 px. LinkedIn company logos show as squares, not circles, so a little more detail fits.

YouTube Profile Logo Size

Upload 800 × 800 px. YouTube shows it at just 98 × 98 px, so keep it simple. For the banner, keep the logo inside the central 1235 × 338 px area, because that is the only part that shows on every device.

What Is the Google My Business Logo Size?

Google Business Profile recommends 720 × 720 px, with a minimum of 250 × 250 px. Files must be JPG or PNG, between 10 KB and 5 MB. A square logo version works best.

Google may not show the logo at all unless your profile has the basics filled in: business name, address, categories, phone number, and opening hours. If your logo is missing from your profile, check those first.

What Size Should a Logo Be in an Email Signature?

Keep an email signature logo to about 150 × 50 px, with a file size under 20 KB. HubSpot recommends these limits so the signature loads quickly and does not get flagged or blocked by email apps.

Use a PNG, not an SVG, because many email apps do not show SVG files. Export it at double size and set the display size in your signature editor, so it stays sharp on high-resolution screens.

What Size Should a Logo Be for Print?

For print, use the vector file and let the printer scale it. If you must use an image file, it needs to be at least 300 dpi at the final printed size. A logo that is 50 mm wide on paper needs about 590 pixels across at 300 dpi.

Common print sizes in Australia:

  • Business card. The card is 90 × 55 mm. A logo usually takes up 20 to 30 mm of width on the front.
  • Letterhead. An A4 letterhead logo is usually 30 to 50 mm wide in the top corner or centre.
  • Small print. Set a minimum size in your brand guidelines, so the logo is never printed so small the words cannot be read.

The searches for “5 cm logo” and “logo size in cm” are often people trying to work out whether their file is big enough for print. The test is simple. Divide the pixel width by 118 to get the largest print width in centimetres at 300 dpi. A 590-pixel-wide logo prints well up to about 5 cm.

If the logo still looks fuzzy at that size, the file is the problem. Our guide on why a logo looks blurry when printed explains the fix.

What Size Should a Logo Be on a Shirt, Cap or Uniform?

On shirts, a left chest logo is usually 70 to 100 mm wide, and a full front or back print is usually 250 to 300 mm wide. Sleeve logos are smaller, about 25 to 100 mm.

Placement Typical width Notes
Left chest (print) 70 to 100 mm The most common spot for uniforms and workwear
Left chest (embroidery) 75 to 100 mm wide at most Fine detail and small text do not embroider well
Full front 250 to 300 mm Around A3 width
Full back 250 to 300 mm Popular for staff and tradie workwear
Sleeve 25 to 100 mm Good spot for a small icon or secondary logo
Collar or upper back 25 to 75 mm Small icon or web address

These ranges come from AM Custom Clothing’s print and embroidery guide and Shopify’s logo placement guide, converted to millimetres. Always confirm with your printer, because garment size and print method change what works.

Embroidery needs extra care. Thin lines, small text and gradients can disappear in thread, so a simplified one-colour version of the logo often works better. Send the printer a vector file, not a screenshot.

Which Logo Version Should You Use in Each Space?

Most logo size problems are really logo version problems. A complete set of logo files has a few versions, each made for a different shape of space:

  • Primary logo. The full logo, usually wide. Use it on website headers, letterheads, signs, and the front of brochures.
  • Stacked or square logo. The same logo rearranged to fit a square. Use it for social media, Google Business Profile and shirts.
  • Icon or symbol. The mark on its own. Use it for favicons, app icons and very small spaces.
  • One-colour and reversed versions. For dark backgrounds, embroidery and single-colour printing.

If you only have one logo file, this is the first thing to fix. A good designer delivers these versions as part of the job. Our guide to what’s included in a brand identity package lists the full set of files you should expect.

Should You Use a Logo Resizer?

An online logo resizer is fine for a one-off social media image, as long as you start from a large, sharp file. It cannot add detail that is not there. Enlarging a small JPG with a resizer gives you a bigger blurry image.

It also cannot change the shape. A resizer will squash or crop a wide logo to make it square. It cannot create a proper stacked or icon version. That needs a designer, or the original vector file. If you are unsure what to ask for, our guide on how to choose a logo designer covers the files to request before you pay a deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard size for a logo?

There is no single standard logo size. A logo should be designed as a vector file, which can be scaled to any size, and then exported at the right dimensions for each use. Square social media profiles generally need 320 × 320 to 800 × 800 pixels. Google Business Profile recommends 720 × 720 pixels. Print should use the vector file.

What is the typical logo size in pixels?

For social media profile pictures, 320 × 320 to 800 × 800 pixels covers most platforms. An email signature logo is usually about 150 × 50 pixels. A website header logo depends on your theme, so upload an SVG, or a PNG at twice the size the theme displays it, to keep it sharp on high-resolution screens.

What size should my logo be for my website?

Your website theme decides the display size, so there is no fixed answer. Check how wide your theme shows the logo, then upload an SVG, or a PNG at double that size. For the favicon, use a square image larger than 48 × 48 pixels. WordPress asks for at least 512 × 512 pixels.

What size is a YouTube profile logo?

Upload a square image of 800 × 800 pixels. YouTube displays the profile picture at 98 × 98 pixels as a circle, so a simple icon works better than a detailed logo. For the channel banner, use 2560 × 1440 pixels and keep the logo inside the central 1235 × 338 pixel area.

What is the Google My Business logo size?

Google Business Profile recommends 720 × 720 pixels, with a minimum of 250 × 250 pixels. Use a JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB. If your logo is not showing, check that your profile has a business name, address, categories, phone number and opening hours.

What size should a logo be on a shirt?

A left chest logo is usually 70 to 100 mm wide, and a full front or back print is usually 250 to 300 mm wide. Sleeve logos are around 25 to 100 mm. For embroidery, keep the logo simple and no wider than about 100 mm on the chest, and always send the printer a vector file.

What artboard size should I use for a logo in Illustrator?

The artboard size matters little for a vector logo, because vectors scale without losing quality. A square artboard of about 1000 × 1000 pixels is a practical starting point. Keep one master vector file, and export each version from it at the exact size each platform needs.
